The Elliot Rooney Quartet’s Christmas Special
Wednesday 16th December
Tickets - £22.00
7.30pm start (doors open 7.00pm)
There is something utterly engaging about this quartet: Perhaps it’s their cohesiveness, or their evident enjoyment at playing together, but whatever it is, they are a highly entraining act to watch and listen to. Led by the affable, uber-talented pianist and arranger Elliott Rooney (who also takes on vocals duty) the band will present their pick of Christmas flavoured music - dotted with the regular upbeat jazz standards. Jay Riley (saxophonist and founder of Stratford Jazz Club) is almost percussive in style, yet deeply melodic when required, Jasper Morrissey (son of the late, great Dick Morrissey) is on drum kit duty - a drummer with just the right amount of cheekiness combined with metronomic time and lyrical bassist Paul Jefferies completes the band. Eagerly awaited…
Hugh Turner & Chris Cobbson Quartet
Wednesday 20th January
Tickets - £22.00
7.30pm start (doors open 7.00pm)
Both highly popular in the jazz fraternity: Chris with his work with Osibisa and Sir Courtney Pine and Hugh with his Funk and Blues bands. These two great musicians will join forces with drummer Jasper Morrissey and bassist Paul Jefferies to create a show that brims with variety and guitar led virtuosity. Imagine a concert that figuratively puts Wes Montgomery together with Peter Green, George Duke, Abdullah Ibrahim and a peppering of golden era show tunes and there it is - an ‘assiette' of musical flavours presented on a solid rhythmic bed of bass and drums.
